How to Troubleshoot a Faulty Water Heater?

If you are experiencing leaking or other issues with your water heater, there are steps you can take to troubleshoot and get your system functioning again in the event of an emergency.

WATER LEAKING

If you notice a leaky water heater, check the inlet and outlet valves to make sure they’re secure. If they’re not, tighten the loose connections.

LACK OF HOT WATER

One common reason for a total lack of hot water is a tripped circuit breaker. Check your breaker box and reset any tripped circuits to test your water heater again.

STRANGE NOISES

This is usually due to sediment build-up on your tank. You can flush your water heater with a hose connected to your drain valve.

How to Troubleshoot Your Garbage Disposal?

If your disposal does not turn on, there are several steps you can take. Be wary of sticking your hand into a garbage disposal, and always ensure it’s in the off position before attempting any troubleshooting tips.

Make sure the disposal is plugged in.

Press the reset button on the bottom of the unit (usually red).

Check your service panel to reset any tripped circuit breakers.

If these tips don’t work, it could be faulty wiring. While this is best left to professionals, you can visually inspect the wing to see if there are any noticeable defects.

When Should I Renovate My Shower?

Most homeowners choose to renovate when they are looking for a new, modern, efficient design for their bathroom. There are a variety of reasons you might be looking to renovate, but how will you know if your shower needs an overhaul? Here are some quick tips:

Replace your shower if heavily stained and it can’t be cleaned.

Replace if you notice the increased presence of mold that you can’t get rid of.

Leaking, cracked, or leaning shower doors can create problems; a new shower is a great fix.

We can help you find the right fit for your needs and budget, so give us a call if you’re considering a bathroom remodel.

Should I Replace My Toilet?

Many homeowners overlook toilet replacement when they’re planning their bathroom remodel. Just like any appliance, your toilet will need to be replaced at some point. Here’s when to get a new toilet:

A cracked bowl.

You’re looking for a highly-efficient, water-saving model.

You’re considering green options like low-flow toilets for your home.

You notice pooling water around your toilet.

Your toilet is unsightly and has permanent rings or visible damage.

Is a Hybrid Water Heater System Right for My Home?

hybrid water heater system is also sometimes known as a heat pump water heater. This is because it functions very similarly to a heat pump. There are a variety of benefits to this system including heightened efficiency and great performance. Here’s how to know if a hybrid system is right for you:

You’re looking for a system that offers increased efficiency.

You’re looking for a system that offers space-saving compared to a tank model.

You’re looking for a system that’s as long-lasting as a tankless water heater.

You live in a climate that remains 40-90 degrees Fahrenheit.

You have an open space that can stay warm such as a garage, attic, or basement.

The temperature never drops below freezing in your home.

Is a Tankless or Tank-Type Water Heater the Right Fit for My Family?

Finding the right system for you can be a matter of preference, but sometimes, only one system will provide you with what you’re looking for.

COST: TANKLESS WATER HEATERS

Can save you more on monthly costs, however, tank-type water heaters have a lower upfront investment.

PERFORMANCE

If you only need to use one appliance for hot water at a time, you’ll enjoy a virtually endless stream of hot water. However, tankless systems can be output challenged when using multiple appliances at once, whereas tank heaters can typically handle this.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

If you need a space-saving, efficient model that can handle extended use, a tankless system is likely the right choice for you. However, if you’re on a strict budget and need a new water heater now but don’t have a concern for space, a tank is a great option.

What is the Right Water Pressure for My Home?

This is often a tricky question for homeowners. The topic of water pressure can be a complex one that requires inspection and identifying specific problems. One way to be able to identify your water pressure immediately is to take a water pressure reading.

A water pressure reading will tell you how forceful your water is in PSI. Generally, the optimal water pressure is anywhere between 40 and 60 PSI. The middle ground at 50 PSI is often the most common.

There’s an easy, low-tech way to identify your water pressure. Run your laundry machine or dishwasher then try turning on a few faucets in your home. If water doesn’t flow easily out of the faucets or shower, you may have a water pressure issue. If you want a more exact answer, check your local hardware store for an inexpensive pressure gauge. Hook it up to a hose faucet for an accurate reading.
